I know it’s not okay to judge a book by its cover, but this isn’t a book. This is a blog. A blog that uses the same theme as countless others. Naturally, there has to be some way to make it stand out.
Most of my time yesterday was spent scouring the theme section of WordPress with the hopes of finding a theme nobody else was using, but at the same time looked good and allowed me as much customisation (excuse the spelling, I’m English) as possible. Of course, there is no such thing, so I eventually settled on this one. I also considered adding images to all my posts from here on in, but then realised that the only photos I’ll be able to use that are relevant are the standard man-writing-on-paper or perhaps a woman-using-a-typewriter. They’ll probably become very boring very quickly.
I’m happy with the theme we have here, but I’m rather flippant, so don’t get comfortable. That being said, the theme shouldn’t matter too much. In the same way we shouldn’t judge books by their covers, I hope that nobody judges this blog by the fact that it shares its theme with thousands of other blogs around the world. Let’s hope that we can all overlook its appearance and focus on the writing.
That being said, very little writing about writing has happened yet, and I feel as though the promise I’ve made in the blog’s tagline is already being broken. Tomorrow, I will be sure to actually write something about writing, instead of just writing about writing about writing. We have a lot to look forward to!
Up until recently I was using this theme too. I couldn’t find anything that worked better, and even though it’s different now, I occasionally catch myself thinking about turning back to it. There’s something about its minimalistic approach that I really like. :)
Definitely the best choice for me, I think. But the fact I can’t change the colour scheme is a bit of a downer. I do like red though…
Your own theme is pretty good too. How did I manage to overlook it?!
